The Kyritz chain of lakes

Round trip by canoe or SUP: The Kyritz chain of lakes

The last ice age on German soil, the Weichselian Ice Age, created numerous channel lakes with their typical north-south direction in the north of Brandenburg and the south of Mecklenburg. However, the shore area along today's forest channel, which now separates the Lower and Upper Lakes, has silted up over the millennia, dividing the once 24 km long lake into two roughly equal lakes. The individual sections of the lake have their own names: The Kyritzer Obersee consists of the Borker See, the Salzsee and the Obersee, while the lower part consists of the Untersee (also known as the Bantikower See) and the Klempowsee. In the tour described, we paddle on the Untersee - and the Klempowsee - from north to south and back. In contrast to the Upper Lake, vehicles powered by combustion engines are not permitted on the Lower Lake.
